Marvin De La Cruz, age 23, attacked and strangled the woman, who is two months pregnant, while she was sleeping in her bedroom in Dorchester on Saturday, June 25, the office reports.

De La Cruz apparently punched the woman in the head, dragged her to the ground by her hair, and kicked her in the stomach, the office reports. He then proceeded to strangle her until she lost consciousness.

De La Cruz also covered and squeezed a 1-year-old child, who was in the room at the time, to silence him. The child sustained a nosebleed and got blood all over his body as a result, the office said.

When the woman regained consciousness, De La Cruz apparently said, “Go freshen up, you are bleeding," the office reports.

The mother then grabbed the child left the house on foot. She was treated on scene for multiple injuries including a bruised abdomen, lacerations to the head and ear and a red, swollen lip.

"The victims in this case were incredibly vulnerable – one due to his tender age, and the other due to her pregnancy," Suffolk District Attorney Kevin Hayden said. “There is no excuse for the type of violence that this individual is accused of committing."

De La Cruz is facing multiple charges including assault and battery on a pregnant victim and assault and battery against a family member. He is being held without bail until his hearing on July 6, the office reports.
